WESTFIELD, NJ — The Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival’s opening night, which was supposed to take place Tuesday, has been canceled due to inclement weather, the Downtown Westfield Corporation announced Tuesday evening.
“We hoped for the best but the weather did not cooperate,” the DWC said on its Facebook page.
Because of the late notice due to unexpected evening rain, no rain date is scheduled for this performance. Instead, the festival will go on as scheduled for next week (Week 2) with another set of performers, the DWC said. Click here for the 2018 performance schedule.
The 22nd Annual Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival features free live music every Tuesday night in July and August from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Rain dates for most performances are Wednesdays).
Four live performances each Tuesday night will held outside in Downtown Westfield at various locations — on Central Avenue in front of Banana Republic, the lawn in front of the North Avenue Train Station, Elm Street in front of the Baptist Church and in Foundation Park across the street from 439 South Ave. West (near the corner of South Ave West and Westfield Ave.).
Quimby Street will be closed for special celebrations of the Sweet Sounds Downtown on July 10 and August 28.
