Realtors always advise home sellers to eliminate clutter when selling their homes because it makes a remarkable difference. A clutter-free home can look like a new one altogether, and you shouldn’t wait until you sell your home to make it look better. Furthermore, clutter can have adverse effects and cause mental and physical stress. You can take steps to conquer your clutter by breaking your decluttering down into shorter sessions - don’t try to tackle the whole house at once! Below are some tips to help you declutter and bring peace to your home:
Designate one area a “no-clutter” zone. Everything must be put away, and nothing can be placed there that’s not in use. Once you’ve established that, gradually expand it to other areas of the home.
Designate one place for papers and documents, and don’t put them anywhere else until you are able to organize them.
Pick up five things you regularly use but are not where they’re supposed to be, and find places for them.
Create a “maybe” box. Sometimes when you’re decluttering, you know exactly which items you want to keep and which you want to donate or get rid of. But sometimes there are items you’re not sure what to do with. Put them in a “maybe” box and take it out in a few months to reconsider.
Put a box in your laundry room for clothing to be donated, and regularly bring it to your local drop box. Especially now with the thousands of people that have been devastated and displaced by the hurricanes, it is more important than ever to give back to those in need. By giving away to someone in need, it may also bring you and your home peace.
