WESTFIELD, NJ — Democrat Michelle Brindle will challenge Republican incumbent Andy Skibitsky in Westfield's mayoral election this year, according to the town clerk’s office. Monday was the last day for Democratic and Republican candidates who wish to run in the June 6 primary election to file a petition.
Skibitksky, who announced his plans to run for a fourth term last month, is the longest-serving mayor in Westfield’s history. No information has been provided yet by Brindle.
For the first time in years, there will be no uncontested seats for town council.
In Ward 1, Linda Habgood (D) will face incumbent Sam Della Fera (R). In Ward 2, Michael Dardia (D) will run against James Corcoran (R) for the seat currently occupied by Republican Ken Donnelly. In Ward 3, David Contract will run against incumbent David Oliveira (R). And in Ward 4, Dawn Mackey (D) will run against incumbent Keith Loughlin (R).
Other candidates could still be announced, as anyone who wishes to run as an independent has until June 6 to file a petition.
