WESTFIELD, NJ — Hosting the NJSIAA District 15 tournament Saturday, Westfield finished second behind North Hunderdon.

Blue Devil CJ Composto, a freshman who took first place in the 106 pound class, was awarded “Most Outstanding Wrestler” of the tournament by district coaches.

“That’s a big honor and very well-deserved,” Westfield head coach Glen Kurz said. “CJ had a great tournament. I think our last wrestler to be voted OW was John Barnes in 2009. It’s great that the coaches recognize how impressive CJ’s wrestling was, but I'm sure he's now looking ahead to next week's regions.”

Other Westfield wrestlers who placed were: Luke Hoerle,  third place in the 113 pound class; Zach Rabinowitz, second place in the 120 pound class; Jeremy Silber, third in the 126 pound class; Jordan Simpson, third place in the 145 pound class; Alan Dente, fourth place in the 152 pound class; Tim Miller, second place in the 160 pound class; Isaiah Reese, second place in the 170 pound class; Jack Miller, first place in the 195 pound class; and Phil Ricca, second place in the 220 pound class.

“Overall, our kids wrestled well this weekend,” Kurz said. “While our goal was to win the tournament, placing second behind North Hunterdon was a good showing. It feels good to finally beat Roselle Park after losing to them in the counties and dual meet. We always want to be doing our best wrestling in February and March. Yesterday was a good step in that direction. Our kids really pushed the pace and we dominated our opponents in third periods. That was the kind of team effort we’ve been looking for all year.”
