At the local level, Republicans and Democrats share the same goals for themselves and their families: they want to live in a safe, attractiv, and vibrant community. As a council member, that is the kind of hometown that I have helped deliver to Westfield residents of all political stripes.
Together we have reached the lofty standards that so many municipalities, governed by both Republicans and Democrats, wish to emulate: a AAA credit rating, low crime and repeated acclaim as one of the top towns in the state and the country, to name just a few.
Westfield’s mayor and council have a lengthy record of responsiveness to residents that I look forward to continuing. We have silenced freight train horns, kept cell towers out of residential neighborhoods and helped gain one-seat rides to Manhattan. In the future, we will continue to attract and assist downtown businesses, successfully manage our state-imposed affordable housing obligations, plant and preserving more trees, and keeping municipal property taxes as low as possible.
I have consistently responded to residents’ concerns and delivered results without regard for politics or partisanship. When a resident asks me to fix a pothole, prune a town tree, contact PSE&G to repair a streetlight, or spend their tax dollars wisely, I don’t first ask them their political affiliation. I just do it; and I want to keep doing it.
The vast majority of local issues have no Republican or Democratic solution. President Kennedy said “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.” I agree. I am very proud of the decisions I have made while on town council. Residents are happy with the non-partisan way in which Westfield is currently governed, and my goal is to keep them happy. I have always sought the right answer as a council member, and I will continue to do so.
