To the Editor:
The Westfield Board of Health held a meeting on May 7, 2018.
The Board discussed bicycle safety. As the weather improves and more people get outside we encourage all bicycle riders to wear properly fitted helmets. All riders under the age of 17 are required to wear a helmet under state law. Bicycle safety information for children can be found at http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/bike/kids.shtm[TO1]
The Board reviewed the Health Department reports for April 2018. Sixty-six inspections were conducted. Sixty-one of the inspections resulted in satisfactory ratings, three inspections did not involve ratings changes, two inspections resulted in conditional ratings. The conditional ratings require that the food establishments make corrections to deficient conditions and prior to a mandatory re-inspection.
From the Public Health Nursing Reports for January and February: nine schools and childcare centers were audited for compliance with maintaining proper immunization records. For schools that were not 100 percent in compliance the Public Health Nurse provided educational information and will conduct a reinspection to ensure full compliance. Lyme disease continues to be present in the area residents are urged to take precautions against ticks when going outdoors.
