4/22/2021 at 1:33 p.m. — Fraud, Identity Theft

A resident of the 1100 block of Rahway Ave reported being a victim of identity theft and fraud. The victim stated that unknown actor(s) used his identity and filed an unemployment claim with the New Jersey Department of Labor. He was alerted to this fraudulent activity after receiving a notification from his current employer. Victim suffered no monetary loss as a result of this fraudulent claim.

A resident of the 700 block of First Street reported being a victim of identity theft and fraud. Victim stated that her personal information was used to commit tax fraud. She received correspondence from Internal Revenue Service informing her that someone filed claim in her name with a proposed income of $33,362. According to the victim, she was never employed by the company listed on tax documents and she did not file this IRS claim. No monetary loss resulted from this fraudulent income tax claim. 

4/24/2021 at 12:17 a.m. — DUI

Officers Natale and Fourre arrested Richard Devino, 20, of Kenilworth, NJ for Driving While Intoxicated in the area of East Broad Street and Wychview Drive, pursuant to a motor vehicle violation. Devino was transported to headquarters for processing and later released to a sober adult.

4/24/2021 at 3:15 p.m. — Theft

Victim states that while attending the Earth Day event located at the South Side Train Station lot unknown parties stole their radio flyer wagon along with a beige tote bag. Victim states that the value of the items is $150.00.

4/25/2021 at 6:10 a.m. — Burglary, Theft

A resident reported that an actor entered their unlocked vehicle. The actor then stole two garage door openers from the unlocked vehicle. Each garage door opener is valued at $10. The total amount of the theft was $20. There were multiple incidents in the area of this burglary to a motor vehicle. A suspect was later arrested in the area and it is believed they were involved in this incident.  

4/25/2021 at 6:10 a.m. — Motor Vehicle — Burglary — Attempted

A resident reported that an actor attempted to enter their locked vehicle while it was parked in their driveway. This attempt was captured on surveillance video. Entry was not made and no damage occurred. A juvenile was arrested and believed to be involved in this incident as well as others.

4/25/2021 at 6:10 a.m. — Motor Vehicle — Burglary — Attempted

While Officer Moya was responding to the area of reported burglaries to motor vehicles he located the suspect vehicle. Officer Moya observed the driver of the suspect vehicle attempt to gain access to the victim's vehicle, however the vehicle was locked. The suspect vehicle then attempted to flee the area, but could not. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot, however, Officer. Moya arrested the passenger of the vehicle, a juvenile, with the assistance of Officer Weiss.

4/25/2021 at 6:10 a.m. — Motor Vehicle — Burglary — Attempted

A resident reports that unknown actor(s) entered their vehicle. The vehicle was left unlocked and parked in their driveway. The victim stated that no items were stolen from the vehicle. This incident appears to be related to several other burglaries to vehicles and items stolen from vehicles. There are no arrests pertaining to this exact incident.

4/25/2021 at 6:10 a.m. — Receiving Stolen Property and Obstruction of Administration of Law

A resident of Topping Hill reported they observed actors entering motor vehicle and committing burglaries to these vehicles. As Officer Moya arrived in the area, Kimball Turn, he observed the suspects in the suspect vehicle reported. The vehicle was subsequently stopped with one occupant fleeing on foot. The second occupant attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by Officer. Moya. This actor arrested was a juvenile from Newark. The juvenile was later charged with Receiving Stolen Property as the vehicle he was in was stolen from Elizabeth, NJ. The juvenile was also charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law by fleeing on foot. The juvenile was later released on a summons for a future appearance in Essex County Superior Court.

4/25/2021 at 8:08 a.m. — Motor Vehicle — Theft

A resident reported that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway. The vehicle was unlocked with the keys inside the vehicle at the time of theft. The vehicle is described as a 2020 Lexus blue in color RX valued at approximately $50,000. There are no suspects at this time.          

4/25/2021 at 9:22 a.m. — Motor Vehicle — Burglary — Attempted

A resident reports that their vehicle was burglarized. The vehicle was parked and unlocked in the victim's driveway. The victim reported no items stolen from the vehicle. This incident is related to several other burglaries and items stolen from vehicles.
