2/8/2021 at 9 a.m. — Fraud

A resident in the 1000 block of Ripley Avenue reported being the victim of fraud by an online computer repair service he attempted to use. The online computer repair service, throughout the process of the computer repair, continued to request additional funds from the victim. The victim provided a total of 33 gift cards with a total value of $12,000.00 to the suspect.

The online computer repair service then advised the victim that there was illegal data on his computer and that he would be reported to law enforcement unless he sent an additional $11,100.00 to the repair service using a Bitcoin ATM.  The victim then attempted to deposit cash into the Bitcoin ATM.  At this point the deposit did not work and the victim because suspicious and terminated all contact with the online computer repair service.  The total loss to the victim was $12,000.

2/12/2021 at 3:30 p.m. — Burglary, Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft

An individual, while in the 200 block of East North Avenue reported being the victim of a motor vehicle burglary and an attempted motor vehicle theft. The victim reports that at 3:30 p.m., an unknown person entered his unlocked motor vehicle, described as a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and attempted to commit a motor vehicle theft while parked in the parking lot. It should be noted that the victim vehicle is valued at approximately $17,800.00.  The suspect was unsuccessful and exited the vehicle without any items being taken.

2/12/2021 at 10:39 p.m. — Theft of Services

A business owner on the 100 block of East Broad Street reported the theft of services from their establishment.  While at that location, two unknown persons failed to pay the required amount owed to the establishment, specifically $12.33 each. The unknown actors fled the establishment a short time later.
