4/5/2021 at 11:16 a.m. — Fraud
A resident of 100 block of Myrtle Avenue reported an incident of fraud. Victim stated that in January she was contacted on Instagram by an unknown actor who offered her high return rates on her investment if she invested with his company. Over the course of three months, victim made several money transfers into various accounts provided by the persons pretending to be employees of the investment company. The victim later realized she had been scammed, leading her to report the incident to the police. She suffered a financial loss of $435,000 before she realized she was a victim.
4/6/2021 at 10:53 a.m. — Fraud
A resident of the 600 block of Roosevelt Street reported being a victim of a fraud. Victim stated that in September of 2020 an unknown person who pretended to be a representative of Best Buy’s Geek Squad Support Services requested payments for computer repairs. After gaining remote access to victim’s computer, the person accessed victim’s bank account and transferred $2,000. Additionally, the victim provided the actor with her credit card information and $5,100 was charged to her credit cards. Victim ultimately suffered a financial loss $7,100 as a result of this scam.
4/7/2021 at 5:39 p.m. — Found Property
A resident reported that she found a children's size bicycle on the front lawn located in the 0 to 100 block of Mohawk Trail. She surrendered the found bicycle to the Westfield Police Department and it was secured for safekeeping. The Westfield Police Department is attempting to locate the owner of this found property.
4/8/2021 at 11:45 a.m. — Identity Theft
A resident of the 200 block of Seneca Place reported that he learned from his employer that his identity was stolen and used to make a fraudulent unemployment claim with the New Jersey Department of Labor. The victim stated he is currently employed and did not make any requests for unemployment benefits. The employee suffered no monetary loss as a result of this fraudulent claim.
4/10/2021 at 11:39 a.m. — Motor Vehicle Burglary
A resident reports that unknown person(s) entered their unlocked motor vehicles while they were parked in their driveway. The resident stated that they observed one vehicle had the door left ajar and the other vehicle had the contents of the center console strewn about the front passenger area of the vehicle. Nothing was stolen from either vehicle.
4/10/2021 at 12:41 p.m. — Motor Vehicle Burglary
A resident reports that unknown person(s) entered their unlocked motor vehicle while they were parked in their driveway. The resident stated the vehicle had the contents of the center console strewn about the front passenger area of the vehicle. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
4/11/2021 at 8:57 p.m. — Theft
A resident reports that posters were removed and stolen from a fence in the area of the 800 block of Rahway Avenue. The resident reports that each poster cost approximately $30. Thus, the total cost of the theft was $150. There are no suspects at this time. The theft occurred between April 10 in the afternoon and April 11 at 8:57 p.m.
