UCVTSFBLA to Partner with A Birthday Wish for its 11th Annual Project Hope March 31

Ratchell Sadovnik, Jane Hoffman, Samira Morin and Rhiannon Leonardo.

On March 31, 2017, high school students from the Future Business Leaders of America club at the Union County Vocational Technical Schools (UCVTSFBLA) will host a fundraiser in support of the Westfield-based charity, A Birthday Wish. Student organizers are excited to hold the 11th annual, "Project Hope."  The public is invited to Bistocchi Hall gymnasium located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains, New Jersey on Friday, March 31 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The evening will feature a fashion show, live music, entertainment and food, among other activities.

A Birthday Wish was founded with the steadfast commitment to let each child in New Jersey foster care know that they are special and that their life truly matters. They do this each day by granting birthday wishes. Why is granting a birthday wish for a child in foster care so important? These children are in crisis situations- many have been victims of abuse and neglect while others have lost a parent.  Fulfilling their special birthday wish says, the day you were born is a day to celebrate and we acknowledge the unique person that you are. It also builds trust. A child in foster care has experienced the betrayal of broken promises. Allowing a child to ask for something special and to have that wish granted is a small step in learning that you can trust people in your life.

Since 2014, Jane Hoffman of Westfield, NJ and her charity, A Birthday Wish, have secured over $150,000 in gifts and in-kind donations and granted the wishes of over 1,000 children in foster care in eleven counties across New Jersey.  There are many children, teens and young adults in foster care who would love to have their birthday wish granted. UCVTSFBLA hopes to grant many more birthday wishes with the help of the school and community. Join students on March 31 and enjoy a fashion show, live music, entertainment, and food among other activities.
