WESTFIELD - Each school year, a member of the graduating class is chosen as the Outstanding Catholic School Graduate. The criteria includes; enrollment in the school for at least the last two years, displays superior academic achievement, and exemplifies Catholic values in word and deed. There were several very worthy candidates from the Class of 2021. This year’s recipient, Anna Maliakal, was announced on Friday, January 22.
Miss Maliakal has been a student of Holy Trinity School since first grade and is actively involved in the school’s Safety Patrol, Girl Scouts, and an altar server for the church. In addition to her academic success, Anna was part of the Mock Trial Club, was honored for her recent “Shark Tank Project”, and is an excellent drummer. As she continues to await acceptances to high schools, Miss Maliakal has already been offered various scholarships based on academic merit. “Anna is worthy of this honor”, stated Mrs. Bridget Abood, eighth grade Social Studies teacher, “she is very centered in her faith.” Mrs. Laura Gribbin, Anna’s homeroom, religion, and Language Arts teacher agrees. “Anna is well-rounded and an inquisitive learner, always looking to understand more on a deeper level,” adds Gribbin. “We are very proud of Anna and all of her accomplishments,” said Dr. Adele Ellis, Principal.
Miss Maliakal will be honored by the school during Catholic Schools Week, January 31 to February 5. She will be also honored with other Catholic School recipients by the Archdiocese of Newark in a future event.
