At the intermediate school level, seven students from Edison and Roosevelt Intermediate Schools were accepted to perform with the 2018 CJMEA Region II Intermediate Band and Orchestra. These are highly competitive ensembles with only 10-15% of student musicians who audition accepted.
Performing as part of the CJMEA Region II Orchestra on March 3 will be Edison 7th graders Kevin Chen (Viola), Steve Wang (Violin) and Clara Yu (Cello), along with Roosevelt 7th grader Julian Hamilton (Viola) and 8th grader Meredith Shepherd (Viola).
Edison 8th graders Conor Daly (Trombone) and Amy Xiao (Piccolo, Flute and Violin) will perform with the CJMEA Region II Wind Ensemble on March 4.
“I congratulate all of our talented high school and intermediate student musicians along with WHS band directors Chris Vitale and Trevor Sindorf, WHS orchestra director Craig Stanton, WHS choral directors John Brzozowski and Maureen Francis, Roosevelt orchestra director Brice Freeman, Edison band director John Scozzaro and Edison orchestra director Jennifer Perkel,” says Superintendent Margaret Dolan. “To have so many of our students accepted into these competitive ensembles speaks volumes about the caliber of our music programs.”
