First Free Concert of 2020 Offered by the Musical Club of Westfield

The first in a series of free concerts of the 2020 season hosted by the Musical Club of Westfield is planned for Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. The program will take place at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm St., Westfield, NJ and is free and open to the public.

The Musical Club of Westfield is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and encourage good music, provide performance opportunities for local musicians and support young musicians from Union county with college scholarships.The club also sponsors the Junior Musical Club for students in grades 8 to 12 from the surrounding communities.

​The concert will begin with Concerto No.1 in D Major by W. A. Mozart, performed by Dr. Theodore Schlosberg, French horn, and Helen Ryba, piano. 

​Pianist Sophia Agranovich will continue the program with Chopin’s Ballade No.1 in g minor, Op.23. Ms. Agranovich will also play Nocturne No.3 in A-flat Major, “Liebesträume” and Transcendental Etude No.4, “Mazeppa”, both by composer Franz Liszt.

​Flutists Jenny Cline and Barbara Lockley will close the concert with Gary Schocker’s Traditional Japanese Melodies for Two Flutes and the composer’s  Lovebirds for Two Flutes.

​There will be a reception with light refreshments immediately after the concert where audience members will have the opportunity to meet the performers. Additional information about the club can be found by visiting musicalclubofwestfield.org
