Holiday Boutique Artisan Fair

Temple Sholom of Scotch Plains will host its annual Holiday Boutique Artisan Fair where shoppers can find Thanksgiving host gifts, teacher gifts and winter holiday presents.

Treat yourself and find gifts for family and friends. You also can enjoy breakfast and lunch with a sweet treat from Soul Bowls, a savory snack from Falafel Eats, burritos and tamales from Mexi-Boys, and top it off with dessert from Gimme Sugar Bake Shop.

Open to the public, the boutique features one-of-a-kind local artisans including:

Textile Trolley — Founder and designer, Louise, turned her passion for sewing into a vibrant business seven years ago when she started creating quilts, bibs and other baby gear. She is now branching into the adult arena with purses, wallets and reusable sandwich bags. Louise sources all of her materials from American-based companies and creates her own unique patterns. Visit her booth for an eye-catching selection of toiletry bags, quilts, baby bibs, diaper clutches, tooth fairy pillows, travel art wallets, coin purses, aprons, and reusable snack, sandwich and stainless steel straw bags.

Love Handles LLC — Stacey Gilmartin of Love Handles designs wire-wrapped, embellished flatware originally inspired by magic wands.  In 2011, Stacey was the mother of a high school senior whose graduation theme was based on Harry Potter. Stacey and a friend designed individual magic wands for each graduate.  From there, she was inspired to create jewelry for the table and went on to handcraft artistic tableware.  Her booth will feature decorative spoons, tongs, espresso paddles, salad servers, cheese tools, corkscrews and bridal cake sets.

7 Artisan Street — While founder Minnie Singh was working with a textile manufacturing company as a process improvement consultant, she was struck by the amount of wasted fabric. She began buying the unused fabric to make small dresses for donation. As her passion project grew, she quit her corporate job and began full-time work at 7 Artisan Street two years ago. With a strong focus on upcycling, Minnie’s booth will offer handcrafted scarves and multipurpose bags made entirely from quality fabric that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill. Visit her booth to learn more about her motto of “reducing waste by design.”

Suburban Hippie — Scotch Plains-based Sean Smith of Suburban Hippie Reclaimed Art is fueled by a passion to recycle and upcycle, Sean takes wood from old barns, homes and other buildings that are being torn down.  He then transforms that wood into wine racks, tables, benches and other housewares. Each piece is individually designed, handcrafted and has a unique origin story. Visit Sean’s booth to see some small items and feel free to speak to him about crafting a large item for your home.

Some of the additional unique artisans and local businesses include Lemondrop Designs  (wood signs and home décor), Jams by Kim (artisanal jams and jellies), Bubble Wrap Clothing Designs (children's and women's clothing), Venezuelan ArtisanWare (wood, textiles, and art), Judaica Gallery (everyday and special occasion Judaica items), Floppy Ear Pottery (handmade pottery pieces), Cassava Handcrafted Bath and body (handcrafted bath and body products), The Painted Flame (handpoured soy candles, tealights, wax melts), PBP- Pens by Paul (hand-turned pens), Match Point Stationery (personalized stationery and gifts), Remy’s Gems (hand-designed and crafted jewelry), Flower Basket Ladybug by Christine Pane (knit and crochet accessories), GlucaGirl (one-of-a-kind inked ceramic coasters and tile art).

Admission to the Holiday Boutique Artisan Fair is free and open to the public at Temple Sholom, 1925 Lake Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ. The event supports Temple Sholom’s educational programs.

One thing that should be done immediately is to treat all levels of ...

On the Other Side of the Border

November 7, 2019

The children kept hugging us. They just wanted hugs. They wanted to be seen, to be loved, to feel safe. It’s odd — we teach our children to not talk to strangers, and yet when we entered the Shelter de Leona Vicario they ran to us, grabbed our hands and wanted to play. My Spanish is limited and their English was non-existent, but they kept telling us their names ...

Mussels 'As Big as Dinner Plates' Removed From Former Hunterdon Farm

November 14, 2019
