Dear Westfield Neighbors,

As we approach the upcoming election in November, I want to share with you my thoughts on servant leadership and authenticity, which I feel are required of individuals in local government. I grew up in Turnersville, NJ in Gloucester County, where my father served several terms as a Town Councilman. As a young girl, I recall walking door to door with my ...

Candidate Statement: Revitalizing Our Downtown

October 21, 2019

One of the many things that attracted Maria and me to Westfield was the old-world charm of our Downtown. One morning while we were house hunting, we grabbed breakfast at Vicki’s Diner, and it just felt right. We always imagined that as our kids got older, they’d spend time downtown with their friends after school and during the summers.

Unfortunately, over the past few years ...

Getting the right filter

Does Rutgers Pay Too Much to Fired Coaches, Athletic Directors, and Academic Administrators?

Does Rutgers pay too much to fired coaches, athletic directors, and academic administrators?

Everyone loves a good college football game. Last season (2018), the Rutgers Scarlet Knights record in the Big Ten Conference was a dismal 1-11. And this year does not look much better. Yeah, Rutgers is in the same league with some heavy hitters like Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan. But, ...

New Jersey’s New Wage Law Protects Employees from Theft

In August of this year, the New Jersey Legislature enacted a new wage theft law that is considered one of the strongest in the nation. This is very good news for employees who work in the State of New Jersey.

If your employer does not pay you, or pays you less than you are owed in wages or benefits the new law provides you with the means to obtain justice in the courts.

It takes a plan with realistic timelines, budgets and expectations to stay on track and keep your sanity through what can feel like an overwhelming process. If building a home is on your bucket ...

The Shame of It: When You Are in an Emotionally Abusive Relationship

Shame is corrosive.  It eats away at a person’s dignity, pride, and self-respect.  Unfortunately, many individuals become embroiled in shame-based relationships or emotional abusive relationships that feature daily episodes of humiliation.  Emotional abusive relationships are dehumanizing.  Each of us deserves to be treated with respect, no matter what the nature of our ...
