WESTFIELD, NJ — The town’s “Daddy-Daughter” dance has long been a popular tradition, and for the first time this year there were two.

The Westfield Recreation Department’s wildly popular version of the dance held at the Westwood in Garwood had sold out with over 550 people registered and so resident party planning mom Kara King with the help of other local parents organized a second one at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains that drew 111 people.

“It was a great time had by all,” King said. “The DJ had the girls engaged. There were daddy-daughter dance offs, a photo booth with tons of props, a massive dessert table, a craft corsage making table, it really was great.”

The official version of the event was equally successful, Recreation Director Don Bogardus said.

“Lots of happy dads, lots of happy girls and lots of happy smiles,” said Bogardus, who added that his favorite part was seeing the dads do the “YMCA” dance pioneered by the Village People.

“It’s really great to see the dads dancing with their daughters,” he added. “That’s what it’s all about.”

King said the dance at Shckamaxon Country Club was so successful she is planning a second one to happen this May at a date to be announced.

“We’re super excited about it and hope to have a great turnout,” King said.
