The Musical Club of Westfield invites the public to a free concert on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. to be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm Street, Westfield NJ.
The Musical Club of Westfield is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and encourage good music, provide performance opportunities for local musicians and support young musicians from Union county with college scholarships. The club also sponsors the Junior Musical Club for students in grades 8 to 12 from the surrounding communities.
The concert will open with Trio No. 30 composed by Franz Joseph Haydn and performed by Helen Bartolick, flute, David Bower, piano and Bruce McKinney, cello. Mr. McKinney is a Guest Artist.
Baritone Stephen Tasy, accompanied by pianist Helen Ryba, will continue the program with a variety of vocal selections spanning over 200 years: "Tu Lo Sai" by Giuseppe Torelli , "Pietà, Signore!" composed by Alessandro Stradella, "Dormirò sol" from Verdi’s Don Carlo and "Non più andrai" from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. This performance will be dedicated to the memory of Anne F. Tasy.
The last section of the concert will feature the compositions of Gary Schocker. Jenny Cline, flute and Carol-Ann Mochernuk, piano, will perform Quirks, including "Blind Optimist", "Incurable Romantic", "Keeping it Cool", "Daydreamer", "Thinker" and "Adventurer". Ms. Mochernuk will close the program with Schocker's Music For Introverts, a composition for solo piano.
