WESTFIELD, NJ — (Updated at 6:31 p.m.) Do you remember ice skating at Mindowaskin Park? Maybe you had a birthday party at the Rialto Theatre when you were young.
Members of the public are invited to revisit these memories during a socially distanced walking tour of 16 locations the Westfield Historic Preservation Commission has detailed. The commission is encouraging walkers to snap a selfie at spots then tell the HPC what they enjoy best about the locations for a chance at a prize.
“Take advantage of this beautiful spring weather to stroll around our historic downtown,” The HPC said in a release. “Stop at your favorite iconic spot and once there, take a picture or a selfie, and tell us what you love most about it.”
Arcanum Hall, Mindowaskin Park, The Rialto Theatre, Arcanum Hall and the Presbyterian Church are among the stops on the tour. Residents are encouraged to print out the full history and map provided at this link.
Email your picture and memory to firstname.lastname@example.org or go directly to the HPC’s Facebook page at facebook.com/WestfieldHPC and the first 10 people will receive a WHPC tote bag dropped off to their address — properly distanced of course.
The photos and write-ups may be submitted throughout the summer.
