WESTFIELD, NJ — When the coronavirus pandemic slowed business for photographer Ken Cavanagh, he didn’t take it lying down. Instead, he got to work helping other small businesses in town, creating a photographic series of places in Westfield that are still operating, though mostly at a limited capacity.

Several of the photos from this series are featured above.

“Most of my photography work is of small businesses for their marketing and social media, as well as portraits and real estate photography,” said Cavanagh.

“With less work these days, I wanted to stay creative and, at the same time, help local businesses get the word out that they are still open for business,” he said. “It’s interesting how they all have developed new ways of working to best accommodate their customers. The challenge was to create portraits of them and their business, yet maintain our social distance and stay safe.”

The project has been fun, he said, and much appreciated by the business owners.

“I intend to keep it going and encourage any local business interested to reach out to me to schedule a short ‘open for business’ photo session,” Cavanagh said. Reach him through his website at www.kencavanagh.com.
