WESTFIELD, NJ — An upcoming film screening and panel discussion will address anxiety in young adults, and if you get to it early, you'll have an opportunity to de-stress.
The Westfield High School Parent Teacher Student Organization has invited parents and students ages 10 and up to a screening of the documentary “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety,” on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Westfield High School, 550 Dorian Road. It was rescheduled from a prior date.
"Attendees are invited to arrive at 6:20 p.m. to participate in a meditative deep breathing to de-stress exercise," the school district announced. "Admission is free and space is limited."
The documentary is sparking conversations about anxiety and is meant to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders and experts, the announcement said.
The event will feature a viewing of the 56-minute film, followed by an informative panel discussion. “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety” is a new documentary from IndieFlix, a leading independent online streaming platform, along with its nonprofit arm, the IndieFlix Foundation, school officials said.
The story continues after the film preview.
Producers Scilla Andreen and Karin Gornick goal is to start a global conversation about and raise awareness around anxiety, the announcement said. Through film interviews, they tell the stories of youths, who discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope.
The film includes an interview with Michael Phelps, a mental health advocate and one of the greatest athletes of all-time. In addition, the documentary provides discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, along with the help, resources and tools available to address the condition.
Westfield School District Director of Counseling Services Maureen Mazzarese will moderate a panel discussion with behavioral health experts following the film screening.
Tickets may be reserved at ShowClix.
