Westfield High School social studies teacher Jim Lane met seminar leader, author and West Point professor Robert McDonald at an all-day seminar on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at USMA Class of 1949 Lodge.

The seminar, attended by teachers from all over the eastern half of the USA, focused on the controversial legacy of Thomas Jefferson by analyzing a dozen primary source documents that can be used with middle and high school students in Westfield.

The documents they analyzed included the Declaration of Independence, transcripts of political campaign events in the late 1700s and early 1800s, newspaper articles from the period and political cartoons and campaign propaganda from the period.
