As we round the final weeks for the next election, we are all focused on Halloween, apple picking, pumpkin patches and preparing for the holidays. However, the election has entered our mail, social media accounts and littered the town with various bling. Candidates have spent a lot of money just trying to get two seconds of our attention as you ponder the right candidate.
I have had the honor of knowing Doug Stokes for over 13 years. When he first decided to run for town council in 2015, I was not surprised by his decision because he believes in giving back to the community. He has raised four children in our town, whom he has taught the same thing as they all contributed spiritually and socially.
I’ve learned more about Doug in the short time he has served as the 4th Ward councilman that I had in all the previous years. Over his term as councilman, I discovered that Doug took his responsibility very seriously by spending painstaking time and effort to help the town of Westfield. Taking this volunteer opportunity with a serious, yet humble approach has served the town very well, but nobody knows everything he has done for this town.
He has taken a stand against the popular vote because he truly believes it is the best direction for the town. I have seen Doug’s contributions first hand, but since he is not a self promoter most people do not know how this “quiet giant” has enhanced our community.
To name a few of his accomplishments: He has paved more roads since being elected, worked hard to keep affordable housing in check and has continued to lobby to support local businesses in town. He keeps his nose to the grindstone and makes things happen regardless of praise, accolades or recognition. I can confidently say, when you go to fight for something, Doug is the one person you want on your team. His nonpartisan approach has quietly served us well and gave an independent voice to Town Council.
As we continue to decide who we want fighting for our town that will serve the best interest of the people, there is no other person to vote for on November 5th. Keep your voice alive and cast your vote for Doug Stokes for 4th Ward Councilman!
