WESTFIELD, NJ — Its opening, originally planned for March, was delayed due to the pandemic, but Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices & Ice Cream of Westfield will at long last begin serving treats this fall.
As several people stepped up to the shop’s open doors at 524 Central Avenue this week hoping for a taste of Ralph’s truly famous treats, owner Cathy Jensen could only offer a sneak peak of what was soon to come.
“We plan to finally open late-September, early October, and we’re really looking forward to that,” said Jensen. “It will be a short preview season and the menu will be limited, but we promise next year we will have a full menu and be open all eight months that we are open as a company.”
Meanwhile, local artist Rich Janusz of Ryzart has been hard at work painting murals inside the shop.
“He is incredible,” Jensen said. “We love his style. He is incredibly talented and great to work with.”
Jensen also thanked Shoreline East Construction Corp. and Forefront Design Architecture Company for helping bring the shop to life.
Ralph’s will have plenty of outdoor seating, she noted, and there is free one-hour street parking.
“We are dog lovers, so we're also going to have a couple of water dishes for the dogs,” Jensen said.
“Hopefully you guys will feel the same way that I do about this Ralph’s,” Jensen said. “I absolutely love it. It’s incredible. It’s my dream come true and it’s exactly what I envisioned my Ralph’s to look like. So please come by, please enjoy our products and hopefully you’ll leave with that warm feeling in your heart, like the way I have now.”
She thanked future customers for all of the wonderful messages they have sent on Instagram and Facebook, as well as in-person.
“We appreciate it,” Jensen said. “We can't wait to see you, where there is a flavor for everybody and a smile for everyone!'
