WESTFIELD, NJ — Goo Goo Dolls lead singer and Westfield resident John Rzeznik plans to reprise the concert he held from his porch last week on Live with Kelly and Ryan Friday, March 27, the mayor announced.
Rzeznik is raising awareness for the town’s “WE Love Local” Fundraiser, created in conjunction with the Westfield United Fund.
“Who’s ready for an encore?” Mayor Shelley Brindle wrote on her Facebook page Thursday. “Tune in to Live with Kelly and Ryan at 9 a.m. tomorrow on WABC7 to see Westfield neighbor and Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik reprise his porch performance to raise money for Westfield United Fund’s #welovelocal campaign to support our local businesses.”
In just one week, the fund has received more than $55,000 from more than 450 residents to help local businesses and their employees who have been devastated by the coronavirus crisis, according to Deirdre Gelinne, executive director of the WUF.
By matching the first $15,000, the WUF now has more than $70,000 available and on Thursday it began taking applications from local businesses impacted by the crisis.
“We've already had more than 50 businesses apply for relief,” Gelinne said.
Business owners who operate an independent business from a physical retail address in Westfield, who have been negatively impacted by the restrictions placed on commerce starting in March 2020, can visit the WUF website, westfieldunitedfund.org, to apply for relief funding.
The Westfield Foundation has offered to match the next $30,000 in donations, Brindle said.
