It is not every day that you get to meet a true hero. I was not planning on it when I went to the Westfield Farmers Market last Saturday. Yet there she was, Fraidy Reiss, walking past and I was able to introduce myself, and to congratulate her for being featured in The Book of Gusty Women by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton (Simon & Schuster, coming October 2019).
Fraidy Reiss is the founder and executive director of Unchained at Last, an organization working to free underaged girls from the bonds of arranged marriage. She knows how to affect policy change through legislation plus peaceful protect. Westfield is very fortunate to have a pivotal figure in its scene, particularly in light of current events. As we struggle against a challenging outlook, we must fight even harder to find the light of hope that yes, we can make a positive difference.
I have only lived in Westfield a few months and have met several amazing people who inspire me. I always want to learn more about how to make a positive difference in the lives of others, especially as I am raising a young leader who wants to be President (and a veterinarian). I am happy that my daughter and I had the opportunity to meet a real-life hero.
Thank you, Ms. Reiss, for striving to right the wrongs and make a better world for girls and families impacted by arranged and underaged marriage. Thank you for acting on that hope with success and making realistic positive change for girls across America, and around the world.
