The food baskets will be distributed through local churches and civic organizations in time for the holidays, organizers said.

In its first food drive in 1996, the FMBA Local 30 distributed holiday meals to about 75 families. This year, the firefighters would like the help of the community to reach its goal of supplying over 100 families with food baskets, organizers said.

The FMBA food drive is one of two the public can contribute to this month.

Westfield Boy Scouts, including Troop 73 of Holy Trinity School in Westfield, are collecting food for the Holy Trinity food pantry.

The scouts are distributing bags, which may be filled with nonperishable food items, to residences and will be picking up donated food Nov. 9.
