Brothers Daniel and David Preuss-Lopes, Boy Scouts from Holy Trinity School, have put their 3D printer to good use. The scouts have been busy at home building face shields and ear comfort straps for first responders, police, medical staff, and others in the community.
Daniel, who is a First-Class Scout of Troop 177, and David, who is an Arrow of Light of Pack 177, have been producing 3D printed face shields and ear comfort straps since the beginning of April. The demand for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) has been so challenging that additional three printers and extra supplies were purchased made possible through the generous donations of the community.
To date, the scouts have donated PPE equipment to: NJ Transit Police, Union County Police, Mountainside Police, Rescue Squad and Fire Department, NJ State Troopers of Holmdel, Newark Police and Hospitals, Linden Fire Department, Roselle Police, Holy Trinity School, Overlook Medical Center's ICU and the Passaic County Sheriff's Office in addition to various assisted living and day care centers.
As the community returns to normalcy, the boys will continue to provide PPE equipment to other front-line heroes and businesses to keep the workforce safe for as long as it is needed. Daniel and David, in true scout spirit, feel that giving back to the community and keeping the front lines safe in the fight against COVID-19 in a time of need is the honorable thing to do.
Daniel and David are currently producing 50 masks per week and plan on increasing the output by asking for donations for more supplies. If you would like to get updates or donate, click here to visit their GoFundMe page.
