WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Food Pantry’s third annual summer food drive is taking place now through Aug. 16.
“The generosity of Westfielders is so appreciated as food donations are less plentiful during the summer months,” said organizer Emily Root. “Any donation that can be offered is so welcomed at the Westfield Food Pantry during this less popular time of community service.”
The pantry is especially in need of “meals in a can” such as SpaghettiOs, beef stew, spam and chili, Root said. Other in-demand items include pasta, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, cereal, nutritious drinks for the elderly (such as Ensure), large diapers, paper towels, toilet paper and feminine hygiene products.
“The Westfield Food Pantry serves local families and individuals of all ages, and it is an important landmark in our town because it serves people locally who are hungry,” Root said. “We as Westfielders may not be cognizant of the local need but can do so much as a community because of the Westfield Food Pantry.”
As in past years, Trader Joe’s has donated brown bags that can be found at participating businesses in town. Filled bags can be dropped off directly at one of these drop points:
- Ron Bansky and Associates Allstate Insurance Agency, 502 East Broad St.
- Coldwell Banker, 209 Central Ave.
- Vine Ripe Markets, 430 North Ave. E
- Weight Watchers, 241 South Ave. E
- Outta Hand Pizza, 311 South Ave. W
Donations can also be dropped off at the Food Pantry at Holy Trinity, located at 336 First Street in Westfield, between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. Or bring donations to Root’s home at 738 Mountain Ave., Westfield.
