SUMMIT, NJ — More than 100 members of the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and their guests gathered at The Grand Summit Hotel Saturday to celebrate the beginning of the squad’s 67th year of service, to install its new officers and to honor its outstanding volunteers with its annual dinner dance.

“For me, personally, out of all the places that I’ve ever worked or volunteered, I’ve never come across a more selfless or altruistic group of individuals who administrate great care and aid to those in need,” newly sworn-in Squad President David Sloan said in his welcoming remarks.

Mayor Shelley Brindle swore in the 2018 officers: David Sloan, president; Michael Besaw, vice president; Cacheca Evans-Hoff, Secretary; Edward Hance, Treasurer; Keith Peterson, assistant treasurer; Sergio Guzman, EMS chief; Kevin Torress, deputy chief; Tremain Ellis, scheduling lieutenant; David Ozga, ambulance lieutenant; Eric Taylor, equipment lieutenant; Estelle Cervantes, training lieutenant.

The invocation was given by Father Peter Delvizis of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The church annually donates part of the proceeds from its NJ Greek Fest to the rescue squad.

“We’re pleased to continue that partnership,” Delvizis said.
