WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Town Council discussed making improvements to Downtown Parking Lot No. 7 at last week’s conference meeting. The lot, across from the post office, is adjacent to Central Avenue, North Avenue and Lennox Street.
“We’re going to take away a piece of Lennox that runs alongside of the AT&T retail store and we’re going to increase parking by 19 spaces,” Public Safety, Transportation and Parking Committee Chair Michael Dardia said.
The project will include beautification and increased pedestrian safety measures, according to Dardia and Town Administrator Jim Gildea, including a pedestrian-activated crosswalk beacon on the street, pedestrian safety measures in the lot itself and decorative lighting.
“This is a project that has received a downtown business improvement zone loan,” Gildea noted. “We also have some capital money aside for it, so the dollars are already in place to go forward with this.”
If approved by the council, it could be a summer project, he said.
