Jenn first told me she was running for the Ward 3 Town Council back in March. So when she asked if I would volunteer on her campaign, I instantly said YES! I’ve long admired her work as a tireless volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Moms Demand Action, and I know she will make an amazing Town Councilwoman.
As her campaign manager, I’ve been behind the scenes delivering signs, making walklists and planning the events. I’ve watched Jenn knock on doors in the heat and rain, listen intently as residents share their concerns, and most importantly, take action to address them. Particularly, the long-standing safety issues on Windsor Ave, and at the South Avenue & Cacciola Place intersection.
My husband Joe and I grew up in Westfield, graduating from high school in ‘00 and ‘99, respectively. After several happy years in living in Brooklyn, we made the move back to Westfield to start our family. Eleven years and three kids later, we’re thrilled to raise them in the community that brought Joe and I together. Our kids even attend Tamaques Elementary, the same school where I went!
Joe and I have lived here long enough to know that many of Westfield’s challenges — from the ups and downs of Downtown, parking, and the state of our roads, athletic fields and playgrounds — have been points of resident frustration for too many years. That’s why we’ve been impressed with the visible progress made by Mayor Brindle’s administration in just two short years. Roads are finally being paved, ordinances have been updated to allow for Westfield’s first brewery, and new community events like AddamsFest have been established.
This all took vision and the type of proactive leadership Jenn’s demonstrated she has in spades. As our Ward 3 Councilwoman, Jenn will be the champion for Southside residents and businesses we’ve needed for years, and she will actually do the hard work it takes to achieve the progress residents expect.
If you haven’t voted early already, I encourage my neighbors here in Ward 3 to vote Jenn Gilman on Tuesday, November 5! She’s on it!
