WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield’s town council approved a $3,440,000 bond ordinance Tuesday night that will soon make possible paving and improvements to more than five miles of the town’s roads. The county, it was noted, is also improving its roads and will repave East Broad Street in Westfield from South Chestnut Street to Springfield Avenue. That work, which covers a distance of about 1.2 miles, is scheduled to begin around June 25, according to the county.

Also at the meeting, Chris Devine, chairman of the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the farmer’s market, which will open on June 6:

The market will be open every Saturday through Oct. 31 at the South Avenue side of the Westfield train station from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the town council will take place on June 9 at 8 p.m.
