WESTFIELD NJ — Fourth and fifth-grade members of Westfield Cub Scout Pack 673 combined forces recently to clean up litter along South Avenue from the shuttered Jiffy Lube Station to the Westfield Train Station.

Inspired by the recent viral sensation the #TrashTag challenge, the Scouts crowdsourced the Westfield, NJ Facebook group to choose the location, said Webelos Den Leader Jaime Hamel.

The Scouts, who were working toward their World Conservation Award badge, were rewarded when Burim Regjaj, owner of Outta Hand Pizza, offered the kids and their parents a free pizza dinner for their efforts.

Ward 3 Councilman Mark LoGrippo also heard about the Scouts’ good deed and surprised them, showing up to thank them for their efforts to clean up Westfield and ensure that commuters “leave no trace,” said Hamel.

“It's really neat seeing the kids come up with this idea based on something that they saw on social media and having such great community and civic support for their efforts,” said Hamel.
