WESTFIELD, NJ — Less than two hours after the vehicle was stolen from Mountainview Circle, officers recovered it in Garwood, and authorities had three suspected thieves in custody, police said Monday.
The vehicle was stolen shortly before 10:14 p.m. Friday, police said. Officers responding to the report of an attempted car theft on Sherman Street in Westfield at 12:04 a.m. Saturday recovered the vehicle just over the Garwood border near Fourth Avenue and Maple Street, police said.
Officers also recovered a second vehicle, which had been stolen from Livingston, in the 300 block of Maple Street in Garwood, police said.
“Through the collective efforts of the Westfield, Garwood and Cranford Police Departments, which included an extensive search of the area and a subsequent foot pursuit, three persons have been arrested,” Westfield police said in a release.
In Westfield, police arrested two youths: one from East Orange and another from Newark, according to Sgt. Michael Walsh. As of Monday afternoon, charges had not been finalized, he said. Officers also arrested an adult from East Orange, according to Walsh.
