WESTFIELD, NJ — Not one to leave a holiday out, the town’s police department wished its Facebook followers a “Happy Festivus to all” Monday.

It is a reference to the holiday portrayed in a 1997 episode of “Seinfeld.” Created by the character Frank Costanza, father of George Constanza, the holiday is an answer to the commercialization of existing winter holidays.

Frank Constanza explains that celebrants mark the holiday with a pole that requires no decoration.

“At the Festivus dinner you gather your family around and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year,” Frank Constanza says.
