WESTFIELD, NJ — Burglars broke into three unlocked cars on Warren Street and Hyslip Avenue over the weekend, police said Monday.
An attempted burglary from a car on Nancy Way was averted when the suspect found the car locked, police said in an electronic notification sent to neighborhood residents. The vehicle burglaries, which occurred in the Fourth Ward, are latest in a series of similar crimes in Westfield and surrounding Union County towns.
Local authorities have repeatedly warned the public to lock up.
“Westfield remains a target because of the abundance of unlocked vehicles with keys inside,” said Police Chief Christopher Battiloro in an open letter shared to department’s Facebook page in December. “I am confident that, without significant changes in securing vehicles, this activity will continue.”
