WESTFIELD — Roads were closed in the area of East Broad and Elm streets Thursday night due to an underground electrical fire, according to Fire Chief Anthony Tiller.

Police and firefighters secured the area, but it was PSE&G that actually handled the fire, Tiller said Friday morning.

The Westfield FMBA Local 30 posted about the incident at around 9:20 p.m. By around 12:30 a.m., the fire was out, Tiller said.

“Once PSE&G cut the power to the lines underground, it extinguished itself,” Tiller said.

The roads downtown were reopened Friday morning.
