WESTFIELD, NJ — West Grove Street between Carleton Road and Boulevard will likely be closed to traffic until Monday due to a tree that knocked down wires, causing a bright fire early Saturday morning, authorities said.

PSE&G workers cut the power to the lines and have since restored power to the area, police said in a Nixle alert. Police are requesting drivers use Midwood Place as a detour. The area is safe for pedestrians, police said.

In a social media post, the FMBA Local 90 said that a large tree had taken down the power lines causing a “bright and dangerous fire.” Crews remained on the scene for about 2.5 hours, fire officials said.
