WESTFIELD, NJ — Mary Ellen O’Boyle moved to Westfield in 1977.
“So we’ve been here 42 years, in the same house on Shadowlawn,” O’Boyle said.
Few know the town as well as the broker associate with Prominent Properties/Sotherby’s International Realty on North Avenue in Westfield.
A Rotarian for almost a quarter of a century, O’Boyle said that she truly believes in service above self, and it shows in her work around town. O’Boyle can be found volunteering regularly, whether it’s helping to make sandwiches for homeless people and delivering books on wheels to her work on the Rotary Scholarship Committee, which earned her a Paul Harris Fellowship. She has served in numerous positions with the College Women’s Club of Westfield and is a member of the Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library.
Her caring nature also shows in her service to her clients.
“Mary Ellen was a pleasure to work with while looking for a home as first time homebuyers in Cranford,” wrote Naomi Carlson. “Moving from Red Bank we knew we wanted a lively downtown, a house close to the train and a strong sense of community within the town.
“Mary Ellen answered all of our questions almost before we could even ask them. She is a very honest and personable real estate agent that was able to find us our home that checked all of our boxes. We are on one of the best streets in town and we are so happy with our house and our location/distance to schools, downtown, train/bus, as well as many great parks. When we look for a larger house within the next few years we will without a doubt work with Mary Ellen O’Boyle again! She is truly outstanding!”
“Mary Ellen guided us through the process of buying our first home 11 years ago,” wrote Chris and Bonnie Tafelski of Westfield. “We had no idea what the process involved or how many items required our attention, but she worked with us all along the way to make it as smooth and low-stress as possible.
“This past year, when our family outgrew our house and it was time to find a new one, again Mary Ellen helped us through the process of selling our first home and purchasing a new one. She gave us sound advice based on her years of experience in the area. She kept us focused and positive during the tough parts of our sale, and we really enjoyed the process of buying our new home with her assistance. She committed to the time-consuming items that working families have a hard time fitting in. She's knowledgeable, sincere and a true professional.”
O’Boyle has earned many designations over the years, which entailed hundreds of hours of classes. She holds a Broker’s license, is a Certified Residential Specialist, a Graduate Realtor Institute Accredited Buyer’s Representative and Seniors Real Estate Specialist.
She’s very involved on the local, state and national level, having served on the board of the Greater Union County Association of Realtors, where she served as its president three times. She spearheaded the merging of the North Central Jersey Association of Realtors and serves as one of its trustees. She has served on numerous committees with NJ Realtors. Currently, she is a director to the National Association and on one of their committees.
O’Boyle has also served as the realtor liaison with the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition for eight years.
“My involvement truly fosters professionalism,” O’Boyle said.
