ROSELLE, NJ — Despite a third period offensive push from the Westfield Blue Devils Tuesday, the Summit Hilltoppers secured a 2-0 win over their competitor.

Summit scored in the first and third periods of the varsity game at Warinanco Sports Center.

“Our boys battled with them,” said Westfield head coach Joseph Bertucci. “We have a lot to work on and that’s the goal: we get better for the next game.”

Bertucci noted the Blue Devils’ offensive efforts in the third period.

“We started being more offensive-minded and putting a little more pressure down in their zone and when we put pressure in their zone, we increase scoring opportunities,” he said.

The Hilltoppers have been a tough competitor for Westfield. Last February, Summit triumphed over Westfield in the Union County Tournament championship game.

The Blue Devils next play Montclair Kimberly Academy at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair Thursday night.
