HACKENSACK, NJ — Westfield’s offense continued on a roll as it dominated Glen Rock 7-1 at Ice House Saturday. Joey Brogan led the Blue Devils with two goals, and team captain Trevor Tanella logged four assists.
Westfield opened the scoring with a goal from Brendan Hiltz. The play began with Tanella stealing a pass from mid-ice before giving it to Hiltz. Later in the first period, sophomore Spencer Brown scored his first of the season off of a pass from Matt Beke.
“It was a crazy feeling after I scored that goal,” Brown said. “I could feel Matt jump on me immediately, and we were both really excited.”
Westfield added a third goal in the first period with a tip in by Brendan Kotiga off a slapshot from Tanella. Glen Rock answered with a goal scored by Eric Braz with nine and a half minutes left in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1.
Freshman Matteo Mancheno stopped the Panthers’ rally in the third period with a goal. Nick Forno followed with a goal just one minute later. Joey Brogan finished the Blue Devils’ scoring with two goals in a 10-second span.
Westfield won the season series against Glen Rock with a 12-1 goal differential in the two games. The Blue Devils are now unbeaten in their last five games, outscoring their opponents 22-6 during that stretch.
It was Westfield’s first game since beating state ranked Ridge on Dec. 21.
“We felt well rested after our long break,” Brown said. “We were hungry and ready to get back into it.”
The Blue Devils will face Summit on Tuesday at Warinanco Park in Roselle. The puck drop is at 6:35 p.m.
