WESTFIELD, NJ — Two girls from Westfield were among the teammates from the FC Copa Academy Soccer Club in Metuchen to escort World Cup-winning soccer players onto the stage at the USA Women’s Ticker Tape Parade in New York City last week.

The youths led the United States Women’s National Team to the stage at the parade held to honor the women’s team World Cup win.

“The experience was really empowering and inspiring because I saw all the women on the US National team being praised by tons of fans and awarded for not only winning the World Cup but standing up for women’s rights,” said Westfield’s Marisa O’Connell, 13.

Audra Toth, 12, also of Westfield, walked with Adrianna Franch, the team’s goalkeeper.

“When I told her I played center back, she said that as a goalie she really appreciates and respects her center backs because they save her butt a lot,” Toth said.
