WESTFIELD, NJ — Kim Leegan, a social studies teacher at Westfield High School, racked up millions of social media views Friday afternoon in the span of a few hours.
Anthony Farag, another social studies teacher at the high school, allowed Leegan to shoot a basketball into a mini hoop from the opposite corner of their shared classroom. The promise: If she made the shot, the class would be rewarded with a 100% score on their next exam about Ancient Greece.
“I never expected it to go in,” Leegan said. “I had never even come close to making one from that far.”
Despite her doubts, the shot went in.
Westfield High School senior Tim Alliegro said the whole class thought the video would go viral if it went in, but they never expected her to make the shot.
Story continues below the video.
After Leegan sank the shot, Alliegro sent his video to SportsCenter’s social media pages thinking it would be a long shot to get the national outlet to post his video.
The students overcame the odds once again, and the outlet posted the video SportsCenter’s Instagram and Twitter pages. In just 21 hours, almost 4 million people had seen it across the pages.
“The coolest thing for me has been hearing from some people who I haven’t talked to in a while because they saw the video,” Leegan said.
