STAFFORD — The weather report looks great! Hurricane Dorian will be far out to see. This Saturday is the opportunity to celebrate the Irish at the Jersey Shore.
The Ocean County Chapter of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh members are all set to welcome everybody at the 2019 Ocean County Irish Festival this Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019.
This is the third year of the event taking place at the Manahawkin Lake Park in Manahawkin. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Ocean County Irish Festival is a family event which will include live music, pipe bands, step dancers, kids activities, food trucks, vendors, and a beer tent.
There will be many vendors, entertainment options and most importantly great fun. This is a family event with a great kids playground for the children to enjoy.
The event is "free" to the public. This is the third straight year the festival has offered free admission.
Irishman of the Year
The 2019 Irish Festival will honor Daniel Coleman as "Irishman of the Year." Coleman is the co-owner of Caffrey's Tavern in Forked River. Caffrey's burnt down last year and this great establishment is being rebuilt. Mr. Coleman is the type of person that the Shillelagh's overwhelming voted to be this year's recipient.
There is a Super 50/50 drawing and those tickets can be purchased on Saturday. There will be 50/50 drawings all throughout the day.
There will be a great variety of Irish musical performances honoring Irish heritage throughout the day. There also will be performances by Irish step dancers and the Ocean County Pipe and Drum Band.
The Captain and O'Neill is performing featuring retired Belleville Police Department Detective "Captain" Scott Sim and Pat O'Neill, a detective in the Bayonne Police Department.
Bloody Callán is also performing at the Festival. Bloody Callan prides itself by playing Celtic Rock and Roll with a lot of fun. Using bagpipes, lead, rhythm and bass guitars, drums, percussion, tin whistle, keyboards and a lorry-load of rebel music the band helps to ensure a good time is had by all
The Eammon Ryan Band from West Caldwell will also be performing on Saturday.
The Order of The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Ocean County is a fraternal organization of men of Irish descent, created to promote Irish Heritage.
