SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The state Division of Taxation has shut down Maria's Pizza and seized its assets, a notice posted to the pizzeria's doorway says.

A bright orange seizure notice dated on July 18 and signed by Kenneth Cowie, regional supervisor for the New Jersey Division of Taxation, now hangs on the door of the pizzeria at 381 Park Ave., which was located in the rear of its building and did not have a street-front entranceway on Park Avenue.

A call to Maria's Pizza's phone number, 908-322-2323, yielded a busy signal. Maria's had previously been seized by the state in 2016 but reopened after a brief shutdown.
