WESTFIELD, NJ — (Updated at 6:48 p.m.) The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northeastern New Jersey, including Union County.

The warning issued at 6:21 p.m. remains in effect until 7 p.m. and advises of possible 60 mph winds and hail the size of quarters. The Weather Service warned of the potential for damage to trees and power lines.

The warning advised that the storm would be near Clark at 6:35 p.m., Linden and Summit at 6:40 p.m. and Elizabeth around 7 p.m.

A flash flood warning issued at 6:41 p.m. remains in effect until 8:45 p.m, according to the Weather Service. The forecasters said that 1 to 2 inches are rain are possible in the area.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.
