YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Parking will soon be prohibited on both sides of Commerce Street from Saw Mill River Road to Hanover Street.
The Town Board voted on the move at its Sept. 3 meeting. The state needs to first approve the action, and then signs warning of no parking will go up; this is expected to take two to three weeks.
The board sought input from the Yorktown Police Department before making its decision.
Yorktown police officer Robert Rohr told the board he saw a motorist almost collide with a cyclist coming out of the Starbucks parking lot. The two individuals were unable to see each other due to vehicles parked on Commerce Street.
“Not only does it cause a safety issue, but it also impedes the flow of traffic for larger vehicles trying to go through Commerce Street,” Rohr said.
