YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Senior captain Erin Daly is in her third full season on the Lakeland field hockey team. She has played on two state and three sectional championship team. Last year, she was All-State, All-Section and All-League for Lakeland.
How old were you when you started playing field hockey and what got you started?
I started playing in third grade because my mom played for coach Sarsen and won a state title with her in 1990, so she wanted me to try the sport. She was also the coach.
What is your favorite thing about being on the field hockey team at Lakeland?
The family atmosphere is my favorite part. All of us are really close on and off the field. Having such a great group of girls to play with makes practices more enjoyable and helps us succeed.
What is your favorite team activity or pregame or postgame ritual that you share with your teammates? What about a personal pregame or postgame ritual?
My favorite team one is when the captain hands out stickers with meaning before every game for us to put on our shin guards. My personal pregame ritual is braiding my friend’s hair. For me, it’s relaxing before games.
Do you have any goals for your final season at Lakeland?
A goal every year is to be the best in the section. Personally, I really want to see the defense bond and support each other on the field.
Who has been your biggest role model over the years and what have you learned from them?
My biggest role model over the years has been Coach Sarsen. Her dedication and self-sacrifice to the sport is inspiring. She’s showed that it may not always be convenient or easy but in order to succeed you have to put in the work and the time.
Do you plan on continuing playing field hockey in college?
I’m continuing to play at UConn. When I was at the school, I loved the campus and the atmosphere. The team closely resembled the family environment that I love in my current team. The school also gave me the opportunity to major in both engineering and business.
Do you know what you want to study in college?
I want to study mechanical engineering and go on to study aerospace in grad school. I am going to try and do business as a second major. All throughout school, I loved math and science and I think it’s really important for girls to get into the STEM careers.

What is your favorite music to listen to warming up for a game?
Throwback music from the early 2000s.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Telekinesis because I want to move things with my mind.
If you could pick one place to visit on vacation that you’ve never been to, where would you go and why?
Bora Bora because it’s so tropical and pretty.
What is your favorite food to eat before or after a game?
Toasted bagel with peanut butter
Best place to eat in Yorktown and why?
Bob’s because my best friend works there.
Favorite social media app? Why?
Snapchat, because you get to talk to your friends and the other social medias are all fake.
For a young athlete growing up in the Lakeland district, what would you tell them about the experience of being part of the field hockey team and why should they go out for the team?
The experience of being on a team is unlike any other. We are all so close and push each other to be the best. Field hockey is also such a great sport and gives so many opportunities to young girls.
