YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Yorktown American Legion conducted its fifth annual Veterans Commemorative Park Dedication Ceremony on Memorial Day following the parade.

John Gunn, the post’s chairman of the Brick Program, said that the 30 new engraved bricks purchased this past year honoring the service of 30 local veterans were formally unveiled at this dedication. During the ceremony, the funds raised from the sale of these engraved bricks were donated from the post to local veterans-related charities.

This year, $2,500 was given to these charities: $1,000 to the Montrose VA Food Pantry; $500 to the Montrose VA Clothing Shop; $500 to My Brother Vinny, a Yorktown charity that helps to relocate veterans released from the Montrose VA Hospital; and $500 to United for the Troops, a local charity that sends care packages to U.S. troops deployed all around the world to boost their morale.

Gunn said that with this year’s donations, Yorktown American Legion Post 1009 has donated $20,500 through this program in just the past five years to help veterans while honoring local veterans with these engraved commemorative bricks.
