Elite Dental Studios is celebrating its 17th year as part of the Yorktown community this month. But it didn’t mark the occasion with a party.

Instead, the practice commemorated the moment by donating a park bench to the Town of Yorktown at Jack DeVito Field. On Wednesday, June 14, they held a ribbon-cutting ceremony replete with a champagne toast that was attended by Town Supervisor, Michael Grace and other town officials, Chamber of Commerce members and, of course, their patients.

“One of our employees, Lori Pirrone, a dental assistant, came up with the idea,” said Lucy Khorram, practice administrator, and wife of Dr. Ash Khorram, the practice’s owner. “We thought, let’s give back to the community that’s been so loyal to us.”

Khorram said they came up with the idea of a bench donation after noticing that there was a need for more park benches.

Elite Dental Studios moved to its current location on Kear Street in Yorktown Heights 10 years ago. Prior to that, the practice had been located in the Commerce Building where they rented space.

“We bought the building we are in now after our lease ran out at The Commerce Building,” Khorram said. “So, we renovated it with the vision we had of a two-story state-of-the-art dental office.”

But the Khorrams wanted something more than just a traditional dentist’s office. They wanted something with a spa-like atmosphere where patients feel at ease.

“We are aware that no one loves to go to the dentist so we wanted to have an atmosphere that is relaxing,” she said. “We have massage chairs in the reception area, as well as massage built into the treatment chair. We have TV monitors in all the rooms and a fireplace in the reception area.”

Khorram is quick to point out they call it a reception area and not a “waiting room.”

“Unlike many offices, our patients don’t have to wait. If they have a 9 a.m. appointment, we see them right on time,” she said. “We take pride in our no-wait policy. We are very punctual and respect our patients’ time.”

Dr. Khorram is a family practitioner who is also a certified prosthodontist, a specialist in conventional and implant-supported crown and bridge treatments. He is an expert in many of today’s most popular cosmetic procedures including porcelain veneers, Invisalign, whitening and botox treatment.

Receiving his high school diploma from the American International School in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Khorram subsequently attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Long Island, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Having much interest in the health sciences and artistic pursuits such as painting and sculpture he decided to pursue a career in dentistry.

He graduated from the School of Dental and Oral Surgery at Columbia University and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Later, he was a resident at Montefiore Medical Center completing a general practice residency program and then continued his dental studies at the prestigious post-graduate program in prosthodontics at New York University.

In the next few years, Dr. Khorram was employed as an associate at several top-quality private practices in New York City and Westchester County, fine tuning his clinical skills and expertise. He is a member in excellent standing of the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Association.

“We also have associates who come into the practice who specialize in root canal treatments, periodontal treatments and implants surgery. This comprehensive approach creates a healthy and consistent result,” Dr Ash Khorram said.

And the Elite Dental Studios veteran staff brings a wealth of experience to the practice, ensuring that their patients get a top-notch professional experience.

“From the minute that they call the office until the time they come in, they are dealing with someone caring and experienced,” Lucy Khorram said. “They are well-versed with dealing with insurance companies to maximize benefits so the patient doesn’t have to deal with it. That takes the burden off the patient. Our hygienist focuses on prevention and education so the patient can avoid any problems and prevent diseases.”

The practice participates with many insurance companies and for those who don’t have insurance they have an internal healthcare saving plans and have discount fees when patients join for the year. They offer 0 percent interest for 12 months.

The Khorrams are happy they chose Yorktown as their professional home and have gotten to know their patients and town officials well over the years.

Elite Dental Studios is very active in the community. Lucy Khorram is on the board of directors for Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and also chair of the Health and Wellness Committee. They also sponsor many local events in the community.

Cuomo Shores Up His Left Flank (at Our Expense)

We keep hearing how the Republicans are bought and paid for by the NRA. I recently explained to you the truth about this myth. The reality is the Democrats are the ones who are bought and paid for. Not by the NRA, but the environmentalists.

Appreciating Two Amazing Role Models

As difficult as this winter has been with the power outages and stormy weather, it pales in comparison to my overwhelming sense of dread as I prepared for the 20th anniversary of my mother’s passing on March 20. On that day, I know my mind will inevitably flash back to her last painful hours, when she valiantly struggled just to stay alive. Yet, I’m equally certain I will remember the ...

To Harrison, L'Chaim!

At long last, the smile of spring approaches, as an angry winter recedes into good riddance. Our spirit is ready to be re-charged. Damn the power outages, full speed ahead!

For my wife, Elyse, daughter, Elissa, and me, this otherwise exuberant time of year brings a confusion of mixed emotions. In 2003, on the opening day of spring, March 20, which happens to be my birthday, our 15-year-old son ...

A Half-Baked Column

“I think it’s time we retired this oven,” I said to my husband as I displayed a sheet of blackened sweet potato fries. “Even the dog won’t eat these.”

“Sure he will,” he said, tossing some fries on the floor. The dog immediately sucked them down.

“Not my point,” I said.

We had known that our oven was on its last burners for ...
